 Breaking News From the Historian:

Our troop participated in the Scout Patrol challenge which is a large, inter-troop scavenger hunt. The scouts who participated from our troop were TJ, Wally, Brandon, William, Andrew K and myself. The troop placed SECOND and we are planning on entering next year to take back our title as #1.

ScoutBase!
Our Pack, Troop and Crew all went to Tunica, MS for ScoutBase where over 8000 scouts (and their parents) attended. The Friday night opening was an amazing fireworks display. The Navy's skydiving team "The Leap Frogs" got things started on Saturday and a motorcycle club called "Rolling Thunder" came through later that day. There was a wide selection of games and skill events to do. There were also tours of the Tunica airport and River Museum. At the closing on Saturday night the poem "When the Woods wake up" was read the Kwahadi Dancers performed and a comedian entertained us. Overall it was a rewarding experience for all.

Additionally, Four our our guys Ben, Nate, Chris and Mr. Steve, participated in the much anticipated first Lodge 558 OA Service Corp. It was formed to show the cheerful service and face of the lodge to all in Chickasaw council by providing youth service to the staff of ScoutBase and making sure everything went smoothly.

One of our Crew members, Melissa, spent the day teaching Leave No Trace as a member of the ScoutBase Staff. She was sought out to teach as she has taught this material before to other scouts in the Council.

CERT ?
Our troop has recently participated in CERT training which stands for Community
Emergency Response Training. The training was a two weekend course and included basic and advanced first-aid, light search and rescue, small fire suppression, and more. The troop passed with flying colors and each scout received a CERT ID Badge, emergency kit and signed certificate from the State of Tennessee.

More information on CERT training from the Shelby County Emergency Management Agency can be found HERE.
